TOP TIP - Keep an eye on interest rates, these variable rate accounts can quickly go from being top earners to poor performers.

Notice accounts

Rank Bank AER* Term Contact Details
1 Scarborough Building Society 4.37% 90 day notice, min bal £2,500 www.scarboroughbs.co.uk
2 Scottish Widows 3.85% 60 day notice, min bal £100 www.scottishwidows.co.uk

TOP TIP - Notice accounts are difficult to compare because there are a huge range of terms. Always find out if there is a minimum balance - if your account falls below this you may get no interest at all. Also, make sure the interest rate you are quoted is the one you will get - these accounts are often banded so that higher balances attract increasing rates of interest, be wary of literature which highlights only the top rate which is only applicable on high balances - ask to see a full list of rates. Here we have listed the rates for the lowest balance band. These accounts are unlikely to be your first port of call as a recent graduate.

TOP TIP - Cash ISAs are likely to be the best buy as a graduate as they are free of tax and many offer instant access so you can dip into the cash at any time. Remember to check for minimum balance requirements and withdrawal limits though. We have only listed accounts that provide instant access.

*AER refers to the Annual Equivalent Rate which is a notional rate illustrating the contractual rate as if paid and compounded on an annual basis.
